Basics of Spinning

Indoor cycling or better known as spinning is a vigorous aerobic exercise on a stationary bike. Spinning classes are offered in most fitness centers which include a certified instructor to lead you through the class. During class the instructor plays music and talks you through the workout while staying in pace with the music. Between the music and the instructor it is a very motivating workout. You can often visualize outdoor cycling like climbing a hill or as you increase tension on the bike you have to stand to keep the pace or cadence of the music.

You do not need any special equipment other than a towel and water bottle as the bike is provided by the fitness center. There is special gear available if you prefer, like special shoes, bike pants and tops. Your instructor will show you how to set up the bike for maximum benefits and to prevent injuries. You will learn how to take your heart rate to maximize your workout as well. Each participant can set their own goals and intensity levels. The great thing about spinning is you can burn between 400-800 calories depending on your weight and intensity in which you ride.
