Hockey Mom to Lead Olympic Team

Mother of two and three time Olympian Jenny Potter will lead the USA women’s hockey team in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Potter was a 19 year old rookie when U.S. won the gold medal in the 1998 Olympics. Potter also won silver in 2002 and bronze in 2006. The U.S. team has high hopes of bringing home the gold this year.

Jenny Schmidgall Potter was born January 12, 1979 in Edina, Minnesota. She played 3 years of college hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth before transferring to the University of Minnesota. She graduated with a BBA in Business Management. She was a four time All American in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Schmidgall was a three time finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Potter currently is a member of the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Western Women’s Hockey League where she was MVP of the league. Potter also coaches with her husband Rob at Coon Rapids High School girl’s team. During the summer they run Potter’s Pure Hockey camp for players of all levels.

At the age of 30 she is a veteran amongst her teammates. She is the oldest player on the 2010 US Women’s Olympic team. Potter is nick named “ Mom” because after practice she has to go home and take care of her kids and then go to work. Her teammates have the utmost respect for her balancing a family, a career and still manage to be one of the best hockey players in the world!
