Basics of Isometrics Isometric exercise is a great addition to any workout; it strengthens the muscle near the joint at which the exercise is performed. It builds strength however it does not replace resistance strength training for sports like jumping and sprinting. There are some sports that require isometric exercise to stabilize the body such as climbing sports, shooting sports and gymnastics.
