Hockey Moms! What actually is a hockey mom? For those who don’t know, they think it is a crazy woman who gets up way to early in the morning to sit is a cold rink on a cold winter day. Hmm? A hockey mom is committed to her child’s activities. She arranges her schedule to accommodate her work schedule, practice, games, chauffer, meals, homework and anything else a mom is asked to do. A hockey mom is what holds everything together behind the scene!
Hockey has a bad reputation for being a brutal sport. All contact sports are brutal! There are typically greater career ending injuries in football than hockey. Every parent wants to see their child succeed in everything they do. Participating in hockey or any sport is mentally, emotionally and physically demanding. The benefits of playing hockey are to keep physically fit, it teaches leadership, it is also helps kids to be social, increases self esteem and teaches balance and organizational skills on and off the ice.
Hockey is a family commitment due to the time and travel involved. It also has a very large financial commitment as well. Hockey moms are like all sports moms; they keep everything in balance for the family. Hockey moms don’t ask to be recognized; however they should not have the negative reputation that goes with being a hockey mom. There is a lot of sacrifice for a hockey family, but the rewards far out weight the sacrifices!
