Hunter Safety

With hunting season in full swing if you haven’t taken the hunters safety course you should look into completing it as soon as possible. Most classes are held in the summer before hunting season begins, however home study courses are available anytime. All states have different requirements for hunters; however safety should be on the top of everyone’s list. Make sure you are carrying the proper documents needed for your state.

Here are a few very important safety tips for handling firearms:

1.       Treat all weapons at all times as if were loaded.

2.       Never point a gun at anyone, even if you think it isn’t loaded.

3.       Use the proper ammunition for the gun you are using.

4.       Know what you are shooting at before you pull the trigger.

5.       Do not climb a tree with a loaded gun.

6.       Avoid alcohol and drugs when using a firearm.

When you are going out to hunt make sure someone knows where you are going and approximately how long you will be gone. Don’t hunt alone! Wear the proper clothing to protect yourself from the elements and include the blaze orange apparel that is required. If you are using a tree stand be sure that it is properly installed. Many hunters are injured every year in tree stand accidents. Hunting is a challenging sport that requires patience and skill; however it is considered one of the most dangerous sports. Following a few simple rules could save your life! Have a good hunt!
