The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing or better known as NASCAR was founded by Bill France, Sr. NASCAR sanctions and governs multiple racing events including the three largest series, the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series. NASCAR has jurisdiction in the United States, Canada and Mexico. NASCAR has headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida and the CEO is Brian France, grandson of Bill France, Sr.
The Sprint Cup Series is the most popular NASCAR series, as well as the most profitable. In twelve months they have 36 races. The Nationwide Series is next highest level of competition and is the only series to race outside the United States. The season is shorter and the prize money is less. The third division in the Camping World Truck Series which features modified pickup trucks. This category started in 1995 and currently has 22 teams and 37 drivers.
The 2010 Sprint Cup Series will start in February in Daytona which will lead up to the largest Sprint Cup race, the Daytona 500. The 52nd Annual Daytona 500 will be held at the Daytona International Speedway on February 14, 2010. It is called The Great American Race where 43 of the best stock car drivers compete in NASCAR’s biggest and most prestigious race. This is a 200 lap, 500 mile race with the largest purse yet.
