Current movies now playing in theaters are the Twilight Saga, New Moon which grossed $72.7 million on opening day setting a box office record. In the first week New Moon is just shy of $200 million. This is a fantasy romance by Stephenie Meyer appealing to young teens. This is the sequel to Twilight where Isabella Swan falls in love with a vampire. We will have to wait and see if Eclipse will be as popular as New Moon.
Children’s movies out for the holiday season are Disney’s A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey. This is an adaptation of the traditional Ebenezer Scrooge with a fantasy twist. This is only getting a B rating from critics; however the Box Office is at $63,289,000. Planet 51 is an animated adventure where humans are the aliens. An all too familiar topic that again is not getting good reviews grossing only $12,286,129.
The Blind Side based on a true story of Michael Oher, starring Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron and Kathy Bates. This is a moving story where a family takes in a homeless boy of the opposite race. A true learning experience for all involved. This is getting top ratings by the fans but not the critics; however grossing $34,119,372. The newest release that might challenge New Moon is Avatar in 3D. This movie has taken over ten years to create. Avatar is an alien that has a human mind. This is a story about a former Marine that ends up fighting for both sides.
