On August 18, 1952 Patrick Wayne Swayze was born in Houston, Texas. Patrick Swayze is a very talented dancer, actor, singer and songwriter. His father was Jesse Wayne Swayze, an engineer drafter and Texas state champion cowboy. His mother is Patricia Yvonne Helen Karnes, a dancer, choreographer and instructor. Swayze lived in Texas until the age of 20 when he moved to New York City to pursue dance and attend the Joffrey and Harkness Ballet schools.
Patrick Swayze was diagnosed in January 2008 with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Swayze has undergone chemotherapy as surgery was not an option because the cancer had spread. Swayze is also trying an experimental drug called Vatalanib to inhibit the growth of the tumor. His Dr. reported he was responding to treatments. Later in the year he did undergo a radiotherapy Cyberknife cancer treatment. Survival rate of pancreatic cancer is less than five years.
Swayze remained active in his career even as late as January, 2009 with A&E’s series The Beast. Swayze also appeared on a simulcast on ABC, CBS and NBC of Stand Up to Cancer to raise money for cancer. Fighting off pneumonia from complications of chemotherapy Swayze continued to be supportive of other cancer patients. By this time Swayze’s cancer metastasized to his liver. At age 57 after a 20 month battle with cancer, September 14, 2009 Patrick Swayze lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. He had his family at his side. Patrick Wayne Swayze was cremated. His ashes have been scattered on his property in New Mexico.
