Fishing the Tuolumne River Located in the Yosemite National Park is the Tuolumne River. The Tuolumne River Recreation Area is not well developed because of the rugged terrain; however a very popular fishing spot. The river drops over 3,600 feet creating a canyon with beautiful views. The best time to fish is April through November as the road access will be closed due to the winter weather. The popular species of fish is the Rainbow Trout. One of the most popular fishing spots is Rainbow Pool off Highway 120 in the South Fork. The South Fork is stocked with trout, but also has a natural population of brown and rainbow trout.
