Some of the best national parks are in the western United States including the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The Grand Canyon is one of the largest natural wonders and also one of the first national parks in the United States. Arizona is also the home of Saguaro National Park and the Petrified Forest National Park. The first national park in the United States is also in the west is Yellowstone National Park. This national park is located in Wyoming, but extends into Montana and Idaho with Old Faithful Geyser being the most popular feature. Yellowstone is also known for its many hot springs.
Utah has a magnificent collection of National Parks, the most of any state in America. Arches National Park is the largest collection of natural stone arches, Zion National Park is Utah’s oldest park, Bryce Canyon which is part of the Paunsaguant Plateau, Canyonlands National Park has five distinct regions and Capitol Reef National Park is known for its sandstone formations. Another popular spot is Alaska which has the popular Glacier Bay and Denali National Park.
Mount Rushmore National Park is in the Black Hills of South Dakota is manmade and created by Gultzon Borglum. This famous rock carving has the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln representing 150 years of history. Also in South Dakota is Badlands National Park encompassing 64,000 acres of wilderness and mixed grass prairie.
