With World Series games 3, 4 and 5 being played in Philadelphia it was disappointing to fans to see them lose twice at home. After losing games 3 and 4 the Phillies came back strong to beat the Yankees 8-6 in game 5. The Yankees won game 3 with a score of 8-5, however not without controversy. The umpires had to turn to instant replay to see if A-Rod did in fact hit a homerun. This 2 run homerun put the Yankees up in the fourth inning and the Phillies never regained the lead.
Game 4 also has the Yankees on top with a score of 7-4 with CC Sabathia pitching on only three days’ rest. Sabathia was able to pitch 6.2 innings giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, 6 strike outs and 1 homerun for an ERA of 3.29. Sabathia has done this many times in his career. Starting pitcher for the Phillies was Blanton; however Lidge was the losing pitcher of the game. Park and Madison were both in for 1 inning each and were able to give the game to Lidge in the ninth inning with a tie.
Game 5 has Philadelphia winning 8-6 to keep the series alive. Keeping the Phillies in the game with the bats were Rollins, Utley and Ibanez each with 2 hits and Werth, Ruiz and Lee with 1 hit each. With the Yankees leading the series 3-2 going back to New York, the Phillies have their backs against the wall. They must win to keep the series alive!
