Spay and Neuter Your Pets

There are not enough homes for all the stray animals today. The best thing you can do as a pet owner is spay or neuter your pet. This is a safe and effective way to stop reproduction of unwanted animals. This is a simple procedure that can be done at the veterinarian’s office. Financial assistance may be available in some cases through the local Humane Society.

Common health benefits why you should spay or neuter your dog or cat are: this reduces the urge to roam, helps to keep your pet safe from fighting other animals and from getting run over in traffic, stops the spread of disease, reduces destructive behavior, female animals won’t go in heat and cannot get pregnant, male cats this stops the territorial behavior of spraying urine, some even say this improves the personality of the animal, and most of all there will be less animals in the shelters waiting to be euthanized.

If you are looking for an animal visit the shelters first, you may save a life. There are many volunteers in your community that work in shelters and animal rescue that could also help you find a great pet.  Some of these include Friends of the Animals and the Humane Society. There are over three million dogs and cats euthanized in shelters every year. Purebreds are also found in the shelters accounting for at least 30% as well as the common mutt. Do your part to put a stop to the overpopulation of animals.
