Fredericksburg, Texas History Seventy miles west of Austin, Texas is Fredericksburg. Settled by German immigrants, who were sent to Texas by the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants, otherwise known as Adelsverein. Fredericksburg was founded by Baron Otfried Hans von Meusebach in 1846. As the settlers built the town it resembled the German villages along the Rhine. The village grew to 1000 strong and also started a wagon road to trade goods from Fredericksburg to Austin. The German settlers also were responsible for a peace treaty with the Comanche Indian Tribe.
