Celebrity Moms

Moms of famous athletes often become celebrities themselves. Look at Debbie Phelps, mom of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. Michael won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games earning the title of the greatest Olympian of all times! Debbie herself earned the title of Mom of the Olympic Games by Johnson’s Baby who will donate money to children’s causes in her name. Debbie also made a commercial for Johnson’s Baby.

Debbie raised Michael and her two daughters by herself which wasn’t easy as Michael was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age. Debbie who is a middle school principal was surprised, but fortunate to be close to the situation with the teachers that worked with Michael. All of her children were competitive swimmers and this also helped Michael cope with his ADHD. She remains a spokesperson for ADHD Facebook group.

Some of the things Debbie has accomplished being a celebrity mom has been working with Chico’s to develop a line of clothing for professional women. Most of the outfits she wore at the Olympics were designed by Chico. She has also written a book; A Mother for All Seasons, a memoir about a single mom raising her family and what it was like in Beijing watching Michael compete. The sacrifices Debbie made for her family, the emotion involved in watching your child compete at such a high level is not always easy. They were able to share this experience as a family as Debbie’s daughters were in Beijing also. Debbie shares her story with the world as they watched Michael make history!
