Derek Jeter, All Time Yankee Hitter

Lou Gehrig was an accomplished baseball player winning many awards during his career including the New York Yankees hits leader. It was unfortunate that his career and his life ended so short due to illness. Gehrig’s performance on the field exemplified what it means to be a Yankee.  Many people compare Derek Jeter and Lou Gehrig as being low profile players not wanting to take individual credit for their accomplishments. As professional athletes they both have great admiration for the sport they love so much. After fourteen years as a New York Yankee, captain Derek Jeter on a rainy day September 11, 2009 against Baltimore hit a single in the third inning to the opposite field to pass Lou Gehrig’s hit record with 2,722 hits.
