Motivating children to participate in sports can often be tricky. Also, finding the right sport for your child can have its difficulties. If you find the right sport for your child's age group it can make things a lot easier. Most children ages two to five lack the the ability to play an organized sport, so free playing is a good way to start your children on the path to sports.
Always consider your child's feelings on the sport they pick and encourage them not to give up. By ages six to seven children begin to have more coordination and are able to play in organized sports. Even so your child might get discouraged if he/she tries and fails in front of their peers. Somethings you can do to help your child is to practice with them and support them. By ten or 11 your child has even more coordination but still needs encouragement.
Your child may be better at an individual sport like swimming, bike riding, or running among other sports. Either way your child needs to know that you are behind them no matter what sport they choose. You need to make sure the sport your child plays has a coach that does not yell and scream at them. The coach also needs to be supportive of the children on his team and give each child a chance to play. They also need to know it is not all about winning, it's about having fun and staying fit.
