Keep the Uniform Looking Like a Uniform

In recent years, uniforms in public schools have become more common. School districts across the United States are beginning to adopt mandatory uniforms. The most recommended amount of clothing one should own, if planning on attending a school with a mandatory uniform, are four pairs of pants, five shirts, seven pairs of socks, two sweaters, two pairs of shoes, and one belt.

Maintaining your child’s uniform can be fairly simple.

First, minding what you buy can greatly reduce the amount of maintenance that is necessary. Look for clothes that come from durable brands. Many manufacturers are making specific clothes to not only look appropriate, but that hold up under the wear and tear of a typical child’s day. Another tip: buy clothes with generous hems and elastic waist bands, as these will allow for your child to grow.

Now that you have the uniform, the other maintenance is not very different from your normal clothes. As long as you follow the manufacturer’s tags, washing them can be very simple. One word of advice is to check the pockets before washing! One ball-point pen or marker can ruin an entire load of uniforms. After washing the clothes, hang up all of the parts. A light ironing on the pants and shirts once a week is not only another way you can maintain the wardrobe, but a method to spot potential problems with the clothing as well.

If you follow these tips, your child’s uniform should be no further burden to you, and it should be able to stay with them throughout the year.
