Being a part of your child’s sport team is easier and more rewarding than one might think. There are many ways to be a part of the team. As a parent you can get involved as much as or as little as you like and you will have the opportunity to offer your own talents, skills and personality.
The most important aspect of it is “to be there” to share these exciting moments with your child. This is part of their growth and character development. They are learning to be a part of a team, to work together with friends for the same goal and to help each other in the process. What better way on can you think of to be a role model for your child than by doing the same thing yourself with the other parents and coaches.
A team’s needs are material, emotional, promotional or technical. Whatever the needs are, you can find one that suits your abilities. Providing healthy snacks for the breaks, putting together flyers to get the word out, working on an advertisement campaign, typing letters, mailing, stuffing envelopes, organizing parties to enhance friendships, planning thank you gifts for the coaches, keeping team records, taking on the task of accounting, or being at the games each time to show your support are just some of the things that a team needs. A team is an extended family that is striving for the success and happiness of all of its members, both as a whole and as individuals.
